Leonardo SpA Unveils AI-Powered Defense System at DSEI 2025
Leonardo SpA unveiled a new integrated defense platform at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition in London, designed to address Europe’s multi-domain security needs. The company developed this system to create a more agile, proactive, and coordinated defense mechanism against modern threats.
The new system, named Michelangelo Dome, connects all military operational domains—from underwater environments to air and space—within a single network. According to Leonardo, this AI-enhanced platform provides comprehensive protection against hypersonic missiles, drone swarms, cyberattacks, and naval threats.
At an event held in Rome, CEO Roberto Cingolani emphasized that in a rapidly changing threat landscape, defense systems must evolve at least as quickly. He stated:
“The defense sector must accelerate innovation, anticipate risks, and remain open to global collaboration.”
In recent years, Leonardo has focused on high-tech military solutions to capitalize on increased defense investments across European countries and NATO members. The company actively participates in both industrial partnerships and consolidation processes within the aviation and defense sectors.
Michelangelo Dome is intended to protect critical infrastructure, government facilities, and high-risk urban areas. The system collects data from a wide network of sensors and uses artificial intelligence to model potential attacks in advance. This approach allows for optimal deployment of defense resources, reduces response times, and enables more coordinated operations.
In its strategic plan announced in March, Leonardo highlighted its goal of establishing a digital infrastructure that connects all divisions of the company. Michelangelo Dome is considered the practical implementation of this vision.
